About BibleProject

We Help People Experience the Bible as a Unified Story That Leads to Jesus

We are a nonprofit, crowdfunded organization that makes free resources like videos, podcasts, articles, and classes to help people experience the Bible in a way that is approachable and transformative. We do this by showcasing the literary art of the Scriptures and tracing key biblical themes from Genesis to Revelation.

Our Story

It began with a whiteboard, a video, and a love of teaching the Bible.
Tim Mackie and Jon Collins (long-time friends and one-time roommates at Multnomah University) were tossing around ideas about how to help people read through Scripture while avoiding the common pitfalls and misunderstandings. How could they present complex biblical themes in a way that was real and unapologetic but still approachable?
Combining Tim's deep biblical understanding and Jon's passion for visual storytelling, they created their first two videos in 2014 and put them online for free. Since then, we have released hundreds of videos, podcast episodes, and other resources, expanded into over 50 languages, and launched the BibleProject app. We want to help people everywhere become life-long students of Scripture.

Our Approach

The Paradigm

We say this a lot: “The Bible is a unified story that leads to Jesus.” And this isn’t just what we believe at BibleProject, it also describes a robust paradigm for how we engage with Scripture. Here are the seven aspects of the paradigm that guides how we make our resources.

Human and Divine Literature

The Bible is the result of a creative collaboration between humans and God’s Spirit. By exploring its humanity, we discover its divinity. By confessing its divinity, it transforms our humanity.

Ancient Literature

The Bible was written in another time and culture, and we need to honor that ancient historical context as we come to understand it better.

Unified Literature

The Bible has many authors, literary styles, and themes, but it tells one story about God’s creation and rescue of humanity to become his partners in overseeing the world.

Messianic Literature

The story of the Bible and all of its main themes come to their fulfillment in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection and the gift of the Spirit.

Wisdom Literature

The Bible invites its readers to not simply learn new ideas, but to go on a journey of character transformation that leads to wise living.

Meditation Literature

As ancient Jewish literature, the Bible is artistically designed to reveal its meaning over a lifetime of re-reading and reflection.

Communal Literature

The Bible was designed to be read and studied within a community that is learning to live within its story.

Our Videos

Watch. Learn. Share. Repeat.

What kind of literature is in the Bible? Do Old Testament laws still matter? How does the book of Jonah point to Jesus? Our library of animated videos addresses all sorts of common—and not so common—questions about the Bible and includes overviews of every book in the Bible, major themes, visual commentaries, word studies, and more.
Each video is a short, visual explanation of how the Bible’s unified story points to Jesus. Take a deep dive into a topic, or start working your way through a series. Our videos are meant to be shared, pondered, watched, and re-watched.

What We're Doing Now

The Journey Continues

We believe that Scripture’s story has the power to transform lives and communities, and we’re passionate about sharing that with our audience. Through the generosity of our supporters, our team is hard at work every day creating new resources to help people experience the Bible’s ancient story.
From videos and podcasts, to classes and reading plans, we’re energized by reimagining how people can discover the beauty of the Bible from its first page to its last. We still can’t believe we get to do this work—and it feels like we’re just getting started.
